What To Visit
Ston, a fortified small town, situated on the isthmus of the peninsula, famous for the longest fortification walls in Europe. From Ston to Mali Ston, over the isthmus, 5,5 km long walls were built to protect the saltpans in Ston, the oldest existing in Europe, where salt is still produced the old-fashioned way.
What To Taste
Oysters and mussels tasting in the Mali Ston bay – oysters and mussels farms are situated in the bay, clenched between the mainland and the peninsula. Oysters from the Mali Ston bay are considered the best on the Adriatic. Tasting is organized on a raft, in a bay, where the farms are situated.
Wine tasting – Plavac mali is the most widely planted red grape variety in the Croatia. The full-body dry wine is powerful and masculine. One of the most notable producers of Plavac mali is the Miloš family winery in the village Ponikve, nearby Ston.
