Where the past merges with the present

The Konavle region is the most southern part of Croatia. The fertile field, a granary of Dubrovnik in the past. Squeezed between the Adriatic Sea, Montenegrin and Bosnian mountains, it is a unique place where the famous past and rich heritage are still alive.

Among many options of day trips, you can arrange your own Konavle trip from Dubrovnik. Choose places and attractions that interest you, and your guide will tailor the excursion according to your preferences.

What To Visit

The picturesque town of Cavtat, the administrative center of Konavle region, a charming and peaceful alternative to often too crowded Dubrovnik; a place where you will still find that laid-back way of life you could find on the Mediterranean in the past century.

The Soko fortress near the village Dunave, an ancient well preserved fortification situated on a top of a rock, with historical traces from prehistoric times and with an exceptional panoramic view over the whole region.

Ancient mills owned by the Đivanović family on the river Ljuta. The landscape of the river Ljuta is one of the national protected areas. In a thick shade of bay leaves, attend a brief demonstration of milling grain and the wool rolling process.

Silk production. In Konavle, women still produce silk threads at home, from cocoons made by silkworm moths, and it’s possible to attend a sericulture demonstration. Silk is used for the most beautiful Dalmatian berth, worn on the folk costumes in Konavle.

What To Taste

Dubrovačka malvasija, a white wine produced in this area from the 15th century until today. The Crvik family winery and Karaman family winery are winners of several international awards for that sort of wine, and it’s possible to organize wine tasting in both of them.

Cooking Classes To Attend

In the restaurant Galija in Cavtat. Hosted by the owner Mislav, you will prepare a 2 or 3 course meal, sipping wine and having fun. In a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, you’ll get your cooking diploma – the permanent reminder of your time spent in Cavtat.

On a family farm in the village Čilipi, preparing “meat under the bell”, a traditional dish, veal roasted at the open hearth under a special iron lid. In the family environment, surrounded by vegetable gardens and fruit trees, you will have fun with goats that the owner breeds, and discover the true rural life.

It is possible to prepare vegetarian meals.

“Vesna made us feel like it was a family outing rather than a tour and we enjoyed every moment with her. We took a half day tour of the Konavle Valley including attractions such as Sokol Grad, Mill, and finally a terrace lunch at a local farm. She is full of knowledge and knows when to share and when to leave space for natural conversation to evolve. The entire family had a lovely time and we highly recommend Vesna.”

“Vesna was so graceful with my kids that they enjoyed her company and surprises too. We also engaged Vesna in a private tour to the Konavle region. It was the middle of winter but the picturesque town of Cavtat looked and felt like autumn. During the family farm tour, we’ve tasted the best veal stew roasted at the open hearth under a special iron lid. You won’t want to miss all of these (•‿•)”

“Communication with Vesna was via email and she was quick to respond and customize our time and tour based upon our schedule. We met at the cable cars and had a three-hour tour around the old town including the walls. Vesna was so informative and shared the amazing history of the town. Additionally, since Vesna had grown up in old Dubrovnik she could share personal anecdotes and how the town had changed and the stories that were passed down from her family.
